چکیده

Metastatic calcification is commonly associated with multiple myeloma, presumably because this disorder has a propensity for causing hypercalcaemia and renal failure. Pathologically, the most common sites of calcium deposition are the lung, kidney, gastric mucosa, heart, and blood vessels.' Metastatic pulmonary calcification is rarely detected radiographically, and when it is other pulmonary abnormalities (most often caused by infections) must be ruled out.2 3 Some authors' 4 have emphasised the clinical value of routine bone scans to detect interstitial pulmonary calcification, and to study the effects of treatment. This report describes a patient with multiple myeloma in whom the bone scan showed metastatic calcification in the lungs and stomach.

Metastatic Pulmonary Calcification in Multiple Myeloma in a 45-Year-Old Man

Metastatic calcification has been associated with multiple-myeloma-induced hypercalcemia. Despite of a relatively high prevalence of metastatic pulmonary calcification in patients with multiple myeloma, only a few cases have been clinically and radiologically detected. A 45-year-old Hispanic male presented to the Emergency Department with complaint of worsening weakness and myalgia. Laboratory ...

Frequency of FLT3 ITD and FLT3 TKD Mutations in Multiple Myeloma Patients (A Case Control Study)

Background and Aims: Multiple myeloma is a malignant proliferation of plasma cells derived from a single clone. The tumor, its products and the host response lead to organ damages. Some factors that are responsible in its pathogenesis are recognized. As FMS like Tyrosine Kinase 3 receptor (FLT3) mutation has been proved as a determining factor in leukemic patients the goal of this study was to ...

It is characterized by a clinical  pentad of 1) anemia, 2) a monoclonal protein in the serum or the urine or both, 3) bone leisons and or bone pain, 4) hypercalcemia >11.5g/dl and 5) renal insufficiency. Non secretory multiple myeloma is a rare variant of the classic form of multi...

Effect of alkali on metastatic calcification produced by hypervitaminosis D.

The effect of alkali (Sodium Bicarbonate) on metastatic calcification produced by Hypervitammosis D (ergocalciferol) was studied in rats. Six organs e.g. kidneys, heart, lungs, stomach, aorta and liver of the rats were examined for evidence of calcification. Six out of ten rats receiving vitamin D alone and seven out of ten rats receiving vitamin D and sodiumbicarbonate in combination, showed c...
